Dido Blagden, Counsellor and Life Coach

Counselling is a therapeutic process aimed at empowering clients to take back control of their lives by working through their issues and challenges that have affected their functioning and enjoyment of life. Whereas Coaching is more focussed on the here-and-now, counselling often looks backwards to situations and experiences where someone 'lost their way', lost self-esteem, confidence and purpose. Counselling is a "talking cure", and is longer term and more in depth than Coaching and is indicated for people who want to develop deeper self-awareness and insight. The focus of counselling is on the client’s past and deals with healing emotional pain. Life coaching, on the other hand, focuses more on a person’s present and future, It is goal-oriented and helps the client develop actionable strategies and plans of action for achieving specific goals in their personal or work life in order to achieve their best life. In coaching, the he emphasis is on goals, action and accountability. There is much overlap because a Life Coach would, where necessary, help a client look at the past where their present functioning is being affected by self-limiting belief systems. In essence counselling aims to help clients resolve old pain and improve emotional states, by understanding and resolving and healing the past. I am qualified in general Counselling, Trauma Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Life Coaching and I use a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach in the way I support, mentor and assist my clients depending on their needs and goals.
